SUSTAINABILITY OF TRIBAL COMMUNITIES IN ANDHRA PRADESH: A STUDY OF THE YERUKALA COMMUNITY IN ANANTAPURAM DISTRICT
Abstract
This study examines the sustainability challenges faced by the Yerukala tribal community in Anantapuram District, Andhra Pradesh, India. The Yerukala, a marginalized ethnic group, have historically struggled with socioeconomic disparities, cultural preservation, and environmental pressures. Through a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, this research investigates the current state of Yerukala sustainability across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Findings reveal significant challenges in education, healthcare access, traditional livelihood preservation, and natural resource management. The study proposes a holistic framework for enhancing Yerukala community sustainability, emphasizing the need for targeted government interventions, community empowerment initiatives, and culturally sensitive development strategies. Implications for policy and future research directions are discussed, contributing to the broader discourse on tribal community sustainability in India.
