EPILEPSY AWARENESS: A DESIGN THINKING APPROACH

Abstract

Dr. Nirmal Surya, a known neurologist has been a trustee with Mumbai Education Trust for three decades now. The trust was involved in running several institutes offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs in management, computer science, pharmacy, media, and engineering. The Board of Governors of Mumbai Education Trust comprised of expert professionals from various fields to offer a holistic view to the Trust. There were artists, doctors, industrialists, activists, and a scientist on the Board. Dr.Surya was a known neurophysician who had been collaborating with hospitals across Maharashtra to treat patients suffering from neurological disorders. He was known to organize camps, creating awareness about epilepsy, seizures, dementia, and other neurological disorders. The colleagues and resident doctors appreciated the focus with which Dr.Surya thought and talked about epilepsy*.

Recently, he was elected as the Regional Vice President (South Asia) of the Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation (IFNR). Known for his unwavering passion for helping his patients, he was chosen unanimously for the position. Interestingly, he was the Founder President of IFNR. He planned to organize a four-day national conference in April 2023 inviting experts across the country to run workshops, symposiums, and public forums during the conference. He was keen to host the conference in one of the college premises of Mumbai Education Trust. His suggestion was accepted by the other trust members and thus the trust became the venue partner for the academic conference of the Indian Federation of Neurorehabilitation
